How Do You Find the Best CNA Classes Online

If you’re short on time – but still want to make the most out of your career – the best way to get some training under your belt is to search for CNA classes online. That way, you don’t have to hop in the car and spend a ton of time in traffic or in a classroom. Instead, you’ll get to learn at your own pace, right from the comfort of your home.

Making things even better?

You can take CNA classes online to get your initial certification, or you can take them for continuing education purposes.

Either way, though, you’ll have to choose your classes wisely. If you want online classes that are going to make the most out of your time – and your resume! – you will need to follow these six tips:

1. Don’t settle for a “quick fix”cna classes online

Graduating from CNA classes online is not something you can do in a few hours, or even a few days. Instead, a good online program will take at least a few weeks to complete. So, if you see a course that promises to teach you everything you need to know in just one afternoon, run!

Odds are the class doesn’t offer any of the real information that you need to make yourself stand apart from other job applicants.

2. Make sure your potential class has the proper accreditation

If you want to get your basic CNA training and certification done online, you need to make sure that your potential class meets all of the proper requirements. If you plan on taking CNA classes online through a U.S. school, you need to make sure that the school is accredited by the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program.

It is also a good idea to check with your local nursing board before you sign up for any CNA classes online. That way, you can make sure you are really getting the training you need!

3. Study the school offering the online class

Remember, when you take CNA classes online, you can take them from any school you want – whether it’s right around the corner or on the other side of the world! As a result, you can be picky about which school gets your business.

No matter how great the class itself sounds, be sure to do some homework on the school offering it. Sadly, some of the online courses are nothing more than a clever attempt to take your money. If you want to make sure you don’t get ripped off, learn all you can about the school that offers the class. And be sure to follow your gut. If something seems “off,” it probably is.

4. Make sure it’s easy to contact your instructors

Simply because you are learning online doesn’t mean you won’t have questions along the way. Unfortunately, when you take CNA classes online, you can’t just raise your hand and ask them. That’s why it is so important to find a school that makes it easy to contact your instructors anytime you need to.

5. Don’t expect to do everything on the world wide web

Taking CNA classes online is a great way to learn on your own time. However, if you’re getting your CNA certification online, do not expect to be able to get everything done in front of your computer. Taking an online course is a great way to learn about all of the theories behind CNA work. Then again, when it comes to certain things – like learning how to lift patients up properly, how to bathe patients or how to properly position them in bed – you are going to have to learn them in person.

So, how do you do that?

The good online certification classes will require you to complete your training with an internship. You’ll go to a nearby hospital – or some other healthcare facility – to learn what you need in a hands-on environment.

In some cases, your online class will come with a list of approved internship facilities. In other cases, you will be responsible for setting up your own internship. Either way, you’ll never be qualified to work as a CNA without the right hands-on training!

6. Pick future classes carefully

Once you have gotten your initial certification taken care of, you can pick and choose which subject matters you want to learn about next. With all of the different subjects out there, you can take practically any CNA classes online that you can imagine – and learn about everything from anatomy, to physiology, to infection control, to patient-care techniques. Because there are so many different online classes to choose from, you will be able to focus on a certain specialty if you want to.

Why is that so great?

By getting specialized training, you will have a unique knowledge that most CNAs don’t have. As a result, taking CNA classes online can help you command a higher salary.

Being able to talk to your instructors or at least a real person is a must, and if you don’t have that you’ll have problems no matter what course you choose.

      Hi Tonya,

      thanks for visiting my website.

There are always people who prefer online training instead of classroom training. Both of it can have pros and cons. I guess for a single parents to be able to take CNA classes online will give them the flexibility they need. And for someone living in a remote area without any direct access to any training facilities, online classes would probably his or her only chance for getting further education.

Classes not having proper accreditation… bad situation. Very expensive mistake.

  3. Lauren says:

Do the online schools have connections to hospitals that will for sure offer accredited internship programs? It seems like a hassle if I have to go out and find a hospital that is offering an internship.

    • Dayton says:

Lauren it depends. Some online schools will supply a list with approved internship facilities while others leave this part entirely at your responsibility.

  4. Kent says:

When taking an online program is there still a hands on portion to the certification test? How dose that work? Thanks for all this valuable info.

    • Dayton says:

Yes Kent, a hands-on skills section is still part of the certification test.

Usually the online classes will ask you to complete a hands-on training. Probably in a nearby hospital or other healthcare facility to learn what is required. Either you’ll get a list of approved internship facilities from your online class, or you would be responsible for setting up your own internship.

      • Kent says:

Thanks for the reply. I want to take an online program, but I’m nervous about setting up my own internship.
How do they test you on the hands on portion? Is that done on like skype or something or through the internship?
